How awesome is it these days in Winnipeg for us cyclists!?  Is it actually almost December?  Maybe global warming is finally going to kick in for us up north, eh!

Last night was a great night to be a Winnipeg biker with biking friends who like to get together to celebrate (Graham W's B'Day), bike race (sort of!) for 6 hrs (kind of!), with lots of heckling/bravado (oh yah!), while enjoying food (chili/dogs with the FGBC/RRR gang and birthday desserts) and refreshments (beer - beer -beer EH!).

Awesome ... last night was the description of it!

6 Hrs of Vimy Ridge ... perfect name for a battle between two rival forces, plus a third upstart (Dallas "I'm gonna ride for 6 hrs for honor and glory - if I feel like it' S.) and held at a site very fitting site for the drama and sport!

But first, it was time for me to suit up in my brand-new wool FGBC jersey ... stylin' and comfy!

I wasn't able to show up til 6 and by then the laps raced was approaching 50 per team (an early milestone ... that became almost the pinnacle?!) and Dallas was just bowing out after fighting a dwindling solo battle (takes more than one 'Olympian' to change the course of this rival challenge!).

All were in good spirits and gratefully accepted my 'hand-ups' of the sweet dark elixir!

The relay bike-swapping was becoming a slick thing by then ... for most that is ;-)

Apparently the Dark Side had snatched a slim lead over RRRacing after 'The Impaler' had a little chain trouble and 'The Cricket' discovered how to sprint out of the saddle during almost all of his laps to overcome saddle height issues!

But RRR was still fighting the good fight ... I watched Mike, Michele, Brad and KK wiping around the circuit at great speed ... actually KK was having a bit too much fun ...

KK just kept on racing past the 3 lap max per turn rule ... who can really blame him - he has been slacking for several month recently!

I got in some laps of my own after the 'race to 50' was over and we had reclined to Chris's place for chili and dogs.  Of course my first lap included taking the 'hidden steps' in the dark at full speed, my first 'old-school front endo' recovery and a few pop-up pedestrian obstacles ... awesome fun!

Next up ... Lori and I headed over to Graham's surprise birthday party with fellow TrgCoop-ers, his family and friends.

Rhonda had set up a slick layout of dessert food and a bike theme everywhere ... good for me (I still had my FGBC jersey on).

So Graham is now the big 3 0 ... young buck!

Rhonda had a 'Graham Trivia Quiz' for us that included a bunch of biking related questions ... here's a few for you to guess at (I'll spare him any personal ones from his childhood ... that we now have for future heckling use!):
1.  How many bikes has Graham owned?  ___  (more than you think!)
2.  What color are the cables on his mtb? ___  (look above!)
3.  What vintage retro CX bike does he own? ___  (think 70s!)
4.  Where did he have a bike stolen from? ___ (the RRR gang didn't do it!)
5.  He's watched 2 World Cup MTB races in person - where? _________ (Oh Canada!)
...............................................................................................................................................................

I didn't get back to 6 Hrs of Vimy Ridge hangout until 10-ish, but was ready to join the continuing race laps if required ... hmm - nope! ... everyone was gathered around Chris's backyard fire pit ... excellent!

A mesmerizing warm fire, hot dogs, marshmellows, beer and tales of biking exploits and future epic awesomeness ... what's not to like?  That is besides G's poor aim with wood resupply and KK sneaking off to get try to up his sides lap total!

Awesome night of fun and hospitality ... thanks Chris & Rhonda. !

Later November and no snow ... oh yah !

Good times, though it does depress me slightly that as I approach 40 Graham is just turning 30.  Oh well, he's the one who will have to visit me as I lie in bed a drooling, senile old man in the nursing home.

Met up with Graham last night at the F & H after the FGBC TNR and was able to confirm one trivia question I didn't know.

So for posterity ('they' say the internet is our new history record!?) ... answers to the little quiz above:

1.  How many bikes has Graham owned?  12
2.  What color are the cables on his mtb?  Orange
3.  What vintage retro CX bike does he own?  Schwinn Super Sport - 1974(?)
4.  Where did he have a bike stolen from?  Red River College
5.  He's watched 2 World Cup MTB races in person - where?  Vancouver (Grouse Mtn) and Calgary (Olympic Park)
